Luca Hänni delivers ESC song 2019 for Switzerland
Luca Hänni will take part in the ESC 2019 in Tel Aviv with his captivating song She Got Me. The selection process was carried out by a 100-strong audience panel and an international jury of 20 experts. Switzerland will compete in the second semi-final on Thursday, 16 May 2019.
‘Getting the chance to perform on such a huge stage in front of an audience of enthusiastic fans in the venue and millions of people at home is definitely one of the high points of my life. I’m thrilled to have the chance to represent Switzerland at the ESC in Israel!’ says the 24-year-old.
Luca wrote his song She Got Me together with a team of national and international composers at a Swiss songwriting camp. He hopes that the song, which combines rhythmic and Middle Eastern elements, will appeal to both young and old: ‘With my ESC song She Got Me, I want to spread some joie de vivre and share my passion for dance and music with the whole audience!’
The Eurovision Song Contest: event and broadcasting dates
The Eurovision Song Contest is watched by almost 200 million people worldwide and is one of the world’s most spectacular TV events. More than 40 artists from around the globe take part in this celebration of European unity, aiming to impart a positive and memorable impression of themselves and their country. In 2019, the event will take place in Tel Aviv in Israel. The first semi-final will be on 14 May, the second, featuring Switzerland, on 16 May, and the grand finale on 18 May 2019.
How was the choice made?
Musicians were invited to submit their songs for the Swiss entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Israel. The entries were then assessed by a 100-member audience panel and a 20-person international expert jury, who evaluated the submissions and artists in a multi-stage process. SRF, RTS, RSI and RTR all had the opportunity to award wildcards. The final decision on the Swiss entry was then made by the audience panel and the expert jury. As with the international ESC shows, the votes from the audience panel and the jury each counted for 50%.
